ALOHA! – Greetings from the white sand beaches of Oahu and the Hawaiian Islands.
The quintessential tropical vacation begins in Honolulu with the scent of plumeria and fresh pineapple. A tropical metropolis, the vibrant capitol city, greets island guests with the outstretched arm of the King Kamehameha Statue, often draped in traditional leis. Diamond Head Crater creates an iconic backdrop east of the city offering hikers panoramic views of popular Waikiki beaches and Oahu’s South shore.
Maui, arguably the second most popular of the six Hawaiian Islands, stands up to its moniker of “The Magic Isle.” Visitors explore the charming streets of Lahaina; take an early morning venture to Haleakala National Park, for a magnificent sunrise; or wind their way along the Hana Highway to enjoy the peace and serenity of Hana town. The spirit of Aloha is waiting for your arrival in Hawaii.
Maui Bay, Hawaii
Things are heating up in Hawaii. For the 2012 vacation season, consider the Aloha State for scenic beaches, incredible food, and plenty of attractions for those traveling with children. Don’t miss incredible historic sites like the U.S.S Arizona National Memorial and Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor in Honolulu – the capital of Hawaii – or enjoy the thrills of snorkeling at the stunning Hanauma Bay State Underwater Park. Take a break from O’ahu Island and head to Lahaina – set along the coast in West Maui, just west of the West Maui Forest Reservation. Stretch out on the beach, stroll through Lahaina's Historic District, and enjoy the rest of your time in beautiful Hawaii.
Hawaii’s largest city, Honolulu is the destination for stunning beaches and amazing cultural centers. While in Honolulu, be sure to hike to the rim of Diamond Head State Monument – the can’t-miss-it volcanic tuff cone smack dab in the middle of town. Take a break from the sun, and check out the Iolani Palace State Monument for a taste of Hawaiian culture and history. Open Monday through Saturday, this former royal palace turned museum is found in Honolulu’s downtown capitol district. Feel like a real king – or queen – during a guided or self-led tour of Iolani Palace.
For more Hawaiian history, be sure to visit the 42-acre Polynean Cultural Center in Laie – just a scenic, coastal day trip north of Honolulu. Found on the northern shores of O’ahu Island, the Polynesian Cultural Center is both a theme park and living museum exhibiting the cultures of Samoa, Aotearoa, Fiji, Tahiti, Tonga, and of course, Hawaii. Try your luck at coconut tree climbing, sign up for a Samoan cooking class, or learn to make fire the Polynesian way. At the Polynesian Cultural Center, you and your family can also look forward to canoe tours and races, spear throwing classes, and authentic Polynesian food. Open Monday through Saturday for the 2012 season, you have no excuse not to visit the Polynesian Cultural Center during your time in Hawaii.
Set on the western shores of Maui, the large and historic city of Lahaina is yet another scenic spot ready for your Hawaiian vacation. Set west of the Iao Valley State Monument, Lahaina is festive town with plenty of celebrations happening throughout the spring and summer. Don’t miss the 2012 Lahaina Whale and Ocean Arts Festival happening in early March, or get excited to commemorate Lahaina’s Banyan Tree – the largest tree in the country – at the Banyan Tree Birthday Party in late April. And for a real American celebration in Hawaii, don’t miss the 2012 4th of July Fireworks and Food Fair during your summer travels to Lahaina. More information can be found at the Lahaina Visitor Center in the Old Lahaina Courthouse, so make sure you’re prepared to party in Hawaii this year.
