Hawaii's Outdoor Fun

Hawaii proves to be a paradise for outdoor adventures – beaches, kayaking, nature trails, and so much more. Venture out into Maui or Oahu on your next visit and experience an outdoor adventure for yourself.


Maui

The island of Maui hosts a whole slew of visitors each year, each looking to make long-lasting memories of their time there. Make you Hawaii travel plans and set your sights on Maui – you'll find all the outdoor adventures you can handle.

Surfing

Find some of the most idea surfing destinations across the island and enjoy a fun-filled day of catching waves. Enjoy this "sport of kings," as it's known, as you explore the beaches and coves. Hookipa Beach and Honolua Bay provide the big waves during the winter months, while some beginner surfers find it easier to manage in south Maui – check out the beaches there like Keawakapu Beach or Kihei Beach

In west Maui, don't miss out on the surf at D.T. Fleming Beach Park, Puamana Beach County Park, or Launiupoko Beach park, which is just south of Lahaina

While the goal in surfing to stay atop your board as you ride the wave, you'll want to head beneath the surface with a day of snorkeling. Head to west Maui and check out Honulua Bay, where you'll find water depths of up to 30 feet. Napili Bay is another premier destination for snorkeling on the west shore of Maui, while Black Rock features it's own unique sights. 

Turtle Town proves to be one of the most ideal snorkeling spots along the south central Maui coast – you'll swim right along side the Green Hawaiian Sea Turtles.

Kayaking

A kayaking adventure in Maui might be just what you need. Whether you travel with your own kayak or hire one of the many kayak tour guide companies in Maui, make the most of this experience. 

You'll find some of the premier kayaking in Maui when you head for Makena Beach Park, and the Ukumehame Beach Park along the western shore. 

A few other things…

From December through April, you'll discover the waters around Maui to be rich in whale-watching experiences. Whether you head out for a leisurely tour via boat, or launch a kayak, keep an eye out for the Humpback Whales – the "gentle giants" as they're known. 

For the truly adventurous, check out some of the many freediving and spearfishing locations around the shores of Maui. The Mala Wharf in Lahaina is a great place to start, as they can provide any gear and instruction you might need. 

Back on land you'll find a whole host of exciting Maui adventures. Piiholo Ranch is your main resource for horseback riding trails, zip line courses, and canopy tours. For cyclists, head to the Makawao Forest Reserve and check out the Kahakapao Loop.


Oahu

Discover Honolulu, Oahu's largest city, and you'll find a wealth of exciting, scenic, and rewarding outdoor adventures. From Diamond Head State Monument, to the Lanikai Beach – get out and explore Oahu.

Golf Courses

Whether you make it a habit of traveling with your clubs, or if you prefer to rent on-site, make the most of your time in Oahu as you play your way through these premier golf courses. 

With a par-72, and 18 holes playing to nearly 6,500 yards, the Hawaii Kai Championship Golf Course is a must for any Honolulu visit. Not too far away is the Moanalua Golf Club, another idea course to play. 

When you visit the North Shore of Oahu, be sure to book a tee time at the Kahuku Golf Course, or the Turtle Bay Golf Club, where you'll find both the Arnold Palmer Course and the George Fazio Course.

Hiking

Plan a hike through any of the myriad of trails and courses through Oahu, and you'll be treated to stunning views, and excellent vistas. Oahu's Diamond Head Summit Trail is just under two miles long, and yields views of Waikiki.

The Manana Trail is not far outside of Pearl City, and at four miles in length, should provide a full afternoon of outdoor fun. The Hau'ula Loop Trail is the hiking pride and joy of the city of Hau'ula Loop, and comes in at just under three miles in length. The Wa'ahila Ridge Trail is nearly two miles long and starts at the lower ridge of Mt. Olympus. 

Surfing

Oahu is home to Waimea Bay, and it's widely considered to be birthplace of big wave surfing. No matter your skill level, find your ideal surfing destination in Oahu. Check out Ehukai Beach and the Banzai Pipeline, or visit Makapuu Beach, one of the top surfing destinations on the eastern shore of Oahu

Along the southern shores, you'll find Waikiki Beach, where the Duke Kahanamoku Statue welcomes all surfers and surfing spectators. Head west and check out the Leeward Coast Beaches like Makaha Beach, Yokohama Bay, or Ko Olina Marina.
