The word “paradise” has many synonyms, including xanadu, heaven, bliss, and utopia. One you may have overlooked, though, is Honolulu. This seaside city on Hawaii’s Oahu Island, is rich in culture, and features a wealth of attractions sure to entertain all members of the family. Often a popular summer getaway destination, Honolulu is just as bustling during the fall and winter months. Plan your next visit to Oahu and see for yourself.
Because of its idyllic tropical setting, Oahu and Honolulu can yield full days of exploring indoors and out, no matter the season. Be sure you check out some of the truly must-see sites like the U.S.S. Arizona National Memorial, World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument, and Diamond Head State Monument. Visit the U.S.S. Arizona on December 2nd for a wreath laying ceremony to commemorate the 75th anniversary, free and open to the public.
When your visit to Oahu has you exploring Honolulu in early October, you’ll want to visit the Hawaii Convention Center. Here, on October 8th and 9th, you’ll be treated to the Amazing Hawaii Comic Con SPECIAL EDITION event. You can attend panel discussions, pick up new memorabilia, and even compete in cos-play contests.
Check out one of premier instrument events hosted in Honolulu this fall – the Hawaii Ukulele Festival 2016. Make your way to the Moana Surfrider on Waikiki Beach on November 18th through 20th and immerse yourself in the world, history, and future of the ukulele. You’ll demonstrations, live performances, partake in workshops, and plenty more.
Make the most of your holiday visit to Oahu by checking out the 32nd Annual Honolulu City Lights event. The opening night ceremony for Honolulu Lights 2016 takes place on December 3rd from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Sky Gate. There’ll be parades, live music, games and activities for the kids, and a tree-lighting grand finale.
The fall and winter on Oahu will see some top touring bands come through for performances. Head to the Neal S. Blaisdell Center on October 27th and experience the actual Hall & Oates live on stage. Daryl Hall and John Oates will bring their classic hits to the stage at 7:30 p.m. Then, on January 2nd at 7:30 p.m., Straight No Chaser takes to the same stage.
