Visiting Oahu

There's never a bad time to visit Paradise. Still, spring and summer visitors to Oahu are greeted by some of the most beautiful weather the island sees all year. Outdoor adventures await at destinations like Diamond Head and the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, and the people of Honolulu are as welcoming as ever. Special events, cultural festivals, family-friendly fun, and more – now's the time to plan your escape to Oahu.

Honolulu visitors are surrounded by first-rate urban amenities, but countless attractions all over Oahu make it easy to get away. Check out Hanauma Bay State Underwater Park, a marine life conservation area with its own vibrant patch of coral reef. The island's year-round warm weather means it's always a good time to hop in the water for the chance to see an array of marine life while SCUBA diving or snorkeling.

The 22nd Annual Honolulu Festival is a fun way to get a sense of Hawaii's cultural roots, March 11th through 13th. For three days, all sorts of events and entertainment fill the Honolulu Convention Center, but the can't-miss highlight is the 2016 Waikiki Grand Parade.

The 26th Annual Great Hawaiian Rubber Duckie Race is fun for the whole family on March 26th. The McCully Shopping Center features pre- and post-race festivities, beginning at 9 a.m., before the Ala Wai Canal turns yellow as nearly 20,000 rubber duckies "race" along a 100-yard course. The race starts at 1 p.m., and live entertainment and keiki games go all day.

The 2016 Pit Stop: Shop, Dine & Dash event is flavorful fun filling Aloha Stadium on April 12th. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., you can sample a wide range of food truck fare, enjoy live entertainment, and browse a variety of one-of-a-kind items on display.

How about a night at the opera to highlight your paradisiacal getaway? From May 20th through the 24th, Hawaii Opera Theatre Presents Il Trovatore, one of Verdi's most beloved masterpieces. It's a tale of passion and murder amid the Spanish Civil War, featuring some of opera's most well-known melodies and themes, including the Anvil Chorus. The first show is Friday, May 20th at 8 p.m. at Blaisdell Concert Hall, with additional performances to follow.
